Is it just me, or when driving an older car, do you want to play music from when the car was new?
Today's example, from the year 1981, which is, incidentally, when my 124 Spider was built...
On the other hand, when in the Mazda3, I find myself listening to a lot of Blood Ceremony's first album, lately. (Example below. Year doesn't match, but it was during the production of the BL-generation Mazda3, so I'm letting it slide.)

I always liked to play Swedish House Mafia in my Volvo 740 GLT ;-)
'06 MX-5 occasionally plays Afrojack or Calvin Harris, but produces some awesome sound of her own.
At home I play a lot of Stones, Prodigy, Miike Snow, John Lee Hooker, Paul Butterfield, Bloodhound Gang to name a few. For driving it has to be a simple beat I think though, matching your pace at the time of playing. Not driver/car/music age related to answer your question ;-)

This was the first song I put on my "Driving the E24 home to Vermont after buying in West Virginia" CD, and I found that it was the perfect song. It just fit the car (and, as far as I can tell, it's in the same key as they exhaust note).

I'm more a mood music kinda-guy. I listen to all kinds of music across all spectrums. I do find myself listening to more drum and bass in my hardtop convertible and more R&B in the Eldorados. But I have noticed one thing, after any particularly lovely long road trip, I will play one song when I arrive at my destination regardless of which car I'm driving.

The mood music is more prevalent in the Mazda for me. The Fiat, at least for the beginning, is pure retro, but that's because I'm still in that vintage car mindset. (When I start messing with it and putting reproduction Abarth headers on it, etc... That'll change.)

I drive a candy-red girly bone-stock three-door Peugeot 306 and I typically listen to either hardcore or death metal inside. So, no.
